Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet is taking a firm stance on border disputes with Thailand. He’s ordered his officials to prepare for a meeting with their Thai counterparts to discuss four disputed areas. These areas are expected to be taken to the International Court of Justice.
Recently, tensions have risen in these disputed areas, including Mombei, Ta Moan Thom, and Ta Moan Touch. Hun Manet blames these tensions on extremist groups and nationalist movements in both countries. He hopes that both sides can work together to find a solution.
The Prime Minister has made it clear that Cambodia wants to resolve the border issues peacefully, using international law and technical mechanisms. However, he also warns that Cambodia will defend its territory by all means, including military force, if necessary.
Hun Manet’s announcement comes after he met with military leaders to discuss the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border. He’s called for the Joint Boundary Commission to meet with Thailand and add the disputed areas to their agenda.
The disputed areas include:
- Prasat Ta Moan Thom
- Prasat Ta Moan Touch
- Prasat Ta Kwai
- Mombei
Hun Manet’s statement was posted on his Facebook page, where he emphasized Cambodia’s commitment to peaceful resolution and territorial integrity. He also reiterated that Cambodia will not hesitate to use military force if its territory is threatened.
The meeting between Cambodia and Thailand is expected to take place soon, with the goal of finding a lasting solution to the border disputes. The International Court of Justice may be called upon to settle the matter if negotiations fail.
