This is partly because Ethereum staking is all the rage right now; Recently, the percentage of all outstanding ETH used for staking reached a record high. In addition, EigenLayer offers a new feature called “Restaking”. This is essentially repurposing ETH through a form of leverage, allowing you to redeploy it for staking. The TVL has grown enormously as a result; At the end of last year, the same value was just $250 million.
EigenLayer received a large investment
The venture capital fund that has invested in the protocol is Andreessen Horowitz, also known as a16z, one of the largest venture capitalists in the world. Bloomberg writes that EigenLayer raised a financing round led by Blockchain Capital in March 2023. The network hoped to raise $50 million.
A16z was the only investor in this round. That doesn’t sound very positive, but Andreessen Horowitz has invested $100 million. That is twice as much as the desired goal.
