Huawei’s Pura series is all about pushing camera tech to new heights. The latest addition, the Pura 80 Ultra, takes this mission seriously. It packs a massive 1/1.28-inch periscope zoom lens that can swap between two different focal lengths.
This complex mechanism allows the sensor to move between two lenses, offering 3.7x and 9.4x optical zoom without losing image quality. The phone also features a sensor-shift optical image stabilization system, which comes in two flavors:
* f/2.4 aperture with an 83mm equivalent focal length
* f/3.6 aperture with a 212mm equivalent focal length
The primary camera boasts a 50-megapixel sensor with a large 1-inch RYYB (Red, Yellow, Yellow, Blue) sensor. It has an adjustable aperture of f/1.6 to f/4.0 and optical image stabilization. This equipment captures a wider dynamic range, up to 16 EV (Exposure Value), significantly surpassing the typical 10-12 EV range found in most smartphone cameras.
The camera system also supports various shooting modes, including Nature, Film, Movie, and Cartoon. Additionally, it utilizes real-time data fusion technology to enhance video highlight details.
The phone has two other cameras: a 40-megapixel ultrawide lens and a 1.5-megapixel multi-spectral sensor.
Beyond the camera, the Pura 80 Ultra has a premium feel. It features a 6.8-inch curved OLED display with LTPO technology, allowing for variable refresh rates between 1-120Hz. The screen is protected by Kunlun Glass 2 and can reach a peak brightness of 3,000 nits.
Huawei hasn’t disclosed the phone’s chip, but it comes with 16GB of RAM and 512GB to 1TB of storage, running on HarmonyOS 5.1.
The phone is powered by a 5,700mAh battery, supporting 100W fast charging and 80W wireless charging. It also meets the IP68/69 standard for water and dust resistance, surviving underwater at 1.5 meters for 30 minutes and withstanding high water pressure at temperatures up to 80°C.
The Huawei Pura 80 Ultra will be available in China on June 26, 2025, in two colors: black and gold. Pricing starts at 9,999 yuan (around $1,500 USD) for the 16GB + 512GB model and 10,999 yuan (around $1,600 USD) for the 16GB + 1TB version.
