Huawei to Test AI Chip to Rival NVIDIA’s H100 Amid US Sanctions Pressure

Chinese tech giant Huawei is gearing up to challenge U.S. rival NVIDIA in the AI chip market with its latest processor, Ascend 910D. Reports from the Wall Street Journal indicate that Huawei has been meeting with Chinese tech companies to test the performance of this new chip.

The Ascend 910D is expected to outperform NVIDIA’s H100 chip, although the H100 is not NVIDIA’s most powerful offering. Huawei aims to receive the first batch of prototype chips by the end of May.

China’s AI Chip Ambitions

This development is part of a broader effort by Chinese companies to develop advanced AI chips that can rival those produced by NVIDIA. According to Reuters, Huawei had planned to ship its 910C chip to Chinese customers as early as early May.

Chinese tech firms have been working for years to develop chips that can train AI models as effectively as NVIDIA’s products. The success of Huawei’s Ascend 910D could be a significant step forward in this quest.
