Huawei Mate XTs Triple-Folding Smartphone Debuts: Kirin 9020, 40MP Ultrawide Camera

When it comes to foldable phones, Huawei keeps things interesting. The company just revealed its second three-fold smartphone, the Mate XTs. This new device builds on the earlier Mate XT from 2024. It comes with several upgrades but keeps the unique folding design. You can also pick it up in some fresh new colors like purple and white, which is a neat change.

The Mate XTs boasts a large 10.2-inch OLED screen. This display uses LTPO technology, making it smooth and efficient. It offers a super sharp 3K resolution and a 16:11 aspect ratio. This big screen is perfect for multitasking. You can easily run three apps side-by-side. The display also refreshes at 90 Hz, so everything looks fluid. With a peak brightness of 1,800 Nits, it’s easy to see even in bright light. Plus, it still works with a stylus, just like the previous model.

The real magic happens when you fold it. Fold the screen once, and it becomes a dual-screen device, each part measuring 7.9 inches. Fold it one more time, and you get a compact 6.4-inch single screen. This smaller size fits comfortably in one hand. It’s a clever way to switch between a tablet and a regular smartphone.

Huawei designed this phone to be incredibly thin. When fully unfolded, it measures just 3.8 mm. Even when folded twice, it remains slim at 12.8 mm. It also weighs only 298 grams. These measurements are pretty impressive for a phone with such a complex folding mechanism.

The camera setup also got a significant boost. The ultrawide camera now features a higher 40-megapixel sensor. This is great for capturing wider scenes, with a 13mm focal length. The main camera remains a strong 50-megapixel lens with a 24mm focal length. The periscope zoom camera is still 12 megapixels, offering a 125mm focal length for clear zoomed-in shots.

Under the hood, the Mate XTs gets a brain transplant. It now runs on the Kirin 9020 chipset. This is an upgrade from the Kirin 9010 found in the earlier model. The new chip offers a faster maximum speed of 2.5 GHz. This very same powerful chip also powers Huawei’s premium Pura 80Pro+ and 80 Ultra smartphones. Huawei says the Kirin 9020 boosts overall performance by 36% compared to its predecessor.

The phone comes with a generous 16 GB of RAM. You can also choose storage options up to 1 TB. It runs on HarmonyOS 5.1, Huawei’s own operating system. Keeping everything running is a large 5,600 mAh battery. Charging is fast, too. It supports 66 W wired fast charging and 50 W wireless charging. You can even use it to wirelessly charge other devices at 7.5 W.
