Chinese technology giant Huawei has launched its Mate 70 Air smartphone, featuring an ultra-thin design that surprisingly integrates a large-capacity battery and a suite of high-end specifications.
The device measures just 6.6 millimeters thick and weighs 208 grams. Despite its slim profile, it houses a substantial 6,500 mAh battery, supported by 66W fast charging.
Huawei aims for the premium segment, with the Mate 70 Air potentially competing against upcoming models like Apple’s iPhone Air, projected at 5.5mm, and Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge, expected at 5.8mm.
The Mate 70 Air is currently available for purchase online in China. Pricing starts at approximately $583 for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant, ranging up to $722 for the top-tier model with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.
Its large 7-inch AMOLED display offers a resolution of 2,760 × 1,320 pixels. The screen supports a 120 Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals.
Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a Kirin 9020A chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM. A more powerful configuration features a Kirin 9020B chipset alongside 16GB of RAM.
Photography capabilities include a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and an f/1.8 aperture. A 50-megapixel telephoto lens offers 3x optical zoom and OIS, incorporating an RYYB color filter.
It also features an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera, a 1.5-megapixel color sensor, and a 10.7-megapixel front-facing selfie camera.
The Mate 70 Air runs on HarmonyOS 5.1, Huawei’s proprietary operating system, which integrates various AI functionalities. It includes a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and supports 5W reverse wireless charging.
Connectivity options span Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.2 with LE Audio and Hi-Res Audio, Beidou satellite communication, and NFC. The device boasts IP68/69 ratings for water and dust resistance, allowing submersion in freshwater up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes and protection against high-pressure water.
Available color options for the new smartphone include Gold, White, and Obsidian Black.
