Huawei, Honor, OPPO, Vivo Unite for Universal Fast Charging Standard 2.0

Big tech brands in China are teaming up to make charging your phone easier. Huawei, Honor, OPPO, and vivo are working together on a new standard for fast charging. This standard is called UFCS 2.0.

The four companies announced their deal at the UFCS Industry Development Conference in Shenzhen, China on May 22, 2025. They want to make sure all their devices can charge quickly and easily, no matter the brand.

This isn’t the first time these companies have worked together on charging standards. Back in 2021, Huawei, OPPO, vivo, and Xiaomi created the first version of UFCS. The goal was to make sure all their devices charged at the same speed.

The new UFCS 2.0 standard has some big updates:

  • Supports 40W charging without needing special certification. This means devices from these brands can use the same adapters and cables to charge faster, without needing to check if they’re compatible.
  • Adapters can adjust their power output automatically, so they can charge devices safely and efficiently.
  • Devices can charge each other, which is called reverse charging.

This new standard is great for consumers. Fast charging is a key feature in new smartphones, but different brands have different standards. This can be confusing and expensive for consumers, who may need to buy multiple chargers.

It’s not clear if this standard will be used outside of China, or if other brands like Samsung or Apple will adopt it.
