Huawei Dominates China’s Foldable Smartphone Market with 76.6% Share in Q1 2025

Huawei is dominating China’s foldable smartphone market. In Q1 2025, the company sold 2.842 million units, capturing 76.6% of the market share. This is a significant increase from Q4 2024, when Huawei sold 2.506 million units and held 48.6% of the market.

The company’s success can be attributed to its diverse range of foldable smartphones. In 2024, Huawei launched the Mate XT Ultimate, a tri-fold phone, as well as the Mate X6, a book-style foldable, and the Pocket 2 and nova Flip, both clamshell-style foldables. Early in 2025 the company also introduced the Pura X, featuring innovative technology.

Impact on Competitors

Huawei’s strong performance has affected its competitors. Honor, a brand spun off from Huawei, saw its market share drop from 20.6% in Q4 2024 to 9.1% in Q1 2025. OPPO, on the other hand, slightly increased its market share from 5.3% to 7.1% during the same period, thanks to the launch of the Find N5 in February 2025.

Other competitors, such as Xiaomi and vivo, have struggled. Xiaomi’s market share decreased from 7.4% to 2.6%, while vivo dropped out of the top five brands in China’s foldable smartphone market. This may be due to the lack of new foldable smartphone releases from these brands since mid-2024.

Broader Market Trends

In the overall Chinese smartphone market, vivo remains the leading brand. Huawei is in second place, having overtaken Apple. Despite the dominance of certain brands in the foldable segment, the overall market dynamics remain complex, with various factors influencing consumer preferences and brand performance.
