How is the most powerful BMW in history?

More than a year and a half has had to pass since it was presented in the form of a prototype until it became a reality. The BMW-XM It is now official, but we will still have to wait a bit to see it on the street: its production will begin at the end of the year and it will not reach dealers until spring. At the moment, its price has not been disclosed.

What has been confirmed is something that the German brand already announced in its day: it is the series model strongest in its history. Furthermore, it is also the first vehicle in the M sports family to feature electrification, a sign of things to come.

And is that the XM is a high-performance plug-in hybrid. Its heart is a 4.4 V8 biturbo gasoline engine that delivers 489 hp and is supported by a 194 hp electric motor to raise its figures to the 653 hp and 800 Nm.

This artillery, combined with its four-wheel drive and eight-speed M Steptronic transmission, is enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. The XM marks a top speed limited to 250 km / h, although with the M Driver’s Package it increases to 270 km / h.

A sportier version

These are impressive figures if you take into account that it is a model of 2,750 kilos (distributed almost 50/50 between both axes), but the truth is that BMW still has an ace up his sleeve BMW XM Label Red.

This variant, which will serve as the top of the range, will take a little longer to arrive, until fall 2023but the wait will be worth it. It will mount the same block 4.4 V8 biturbo, but boosted up to 585 CV. Thus, combined with the same electric motor, it reaches 748 hp and 1,000 Nm.

Electrification plays a key role in its performance, but also in its efficiency. It allows you to homologate a fuel consumption of between 1.5 and 1.6 liters in the first 100 kilometers, and CO emissionstwo between 33 and 36 g/km. The electrical cost is between 28.9 and 30.1 kWh per 100 kilometers.

The new German SUV can drive between 82 and 88 kilometers in 100% electric mode thanks to its 25.7 kWh battery. It has the DGT Zero label and can circulate (without emissions) at speeds of up to 140 km/h.

An imposing design

Its image has remained very faithful to the original prototype, with small changes, but respecting practically all the features.

It is a model of forceful aesthetic, muscular and in whose design straight lines and marked shapes are very present. A clear example of this is the sculpted front, with the large kidneys of the grill very well defined, a somewhat ornate bumper and very thin optical groups.

The huge wheels, from 21 to 23 inches, have a very striking design and there are particular details such as the window frame, which extends at the bottom.

By comparison, the cleanliness of the tailgate is shocking, where the small headlights make a lot of sheet metal look. The brand has chosen to concentrate the details on the diffuser, where they appear two exhaust outlets double hexagonal shape and vertical orientation.

The interior features a five-seater configuration, with ample seats available in four different upholsteries. The leading role falls on the BMW Curved Display with a 12.3-inch instrument panel and a 14.9-inch central screen.

Its endowment is the most complete, with elements such as the four-zone climate control, the ambient lighting system, the high-fidelity sound systems and a compendium of driving assistants that includes the Driving Assistant and the parking assistant with extended functions. .
