How Barcelona fared in their last appearances in the Europa League

Barça has a pending account with the Europa League. AND not only because of the sad spectacle he gave last season against Eintracht in the quarterfinals, where he was not only eliminated but invaded by a flood of white shirts from the German fans, who took advantage of the lack of control and the desire to do business for the club to be the majority at the Camp Nou and help his team through the tie ( then Eintracht was the champion of the tournament at the Sánchez Pizjuán). Earlier, Barça had eliminated Napoli in the round of 16 access playoff and, later, Galatasaray in the quarterfinals.

But Barça’s debt with the Europa League comes from further back. In fact, this competition, heir to UEFA, is the only one that Barça has not been able to raise throughout its history. He barely reached the semifinals four times and always lost. Twice against Liverpool (1976 and 2001), always the red ogre for Barça; another against Bayern and one more against PSV in 1978. In the rest, Celtic eliminated him in the round of 16 in 2004 (his last participation in the competition until last year). In 1972 and 1973, Nice and Porto eliminated him and in 1977 Athletic Club executed him. Finally, Cologne, Dundee and Leverkusen also eliminated Barça in 1981, 1987 and 1988 respectively.
