Tarun Mansukhani’s life was a rollercoaster after his debut film “Dostana” in 2008. The movie, starring John Abraham, Priyanka Chopra, and Abhishek Bachchan, was a hit. But little did everyone know, Tarun’s personal life was about to take a drastic turn. He got divorced in 2014, nine years into his marriage with Taruna, and it wasn’t easy. The expensive divorce proceedings left him with a heavy debt to pay off.
In a recent interview with Just To Filmy, Tarun opened up about his struggles. “My divorce was a costly affair, and I had to deal with a lot of emotional turmoil. I wasn’t in the right state of mind to make a film. I had to prioritize getting out of debt first.” He didn’t want to make a film just for the sake of paying off his debt. Tarun felt that would be a superficial reason, and he wouldn’t be able to enjoy the process of filmmaking.
Tarun’s second film, “Drive”, released in 2019, eleven years after his debut. He had finally paid off his debt and was ready to focus on his craft again. “If I had made a film just to pay off my debt, I would’ve been making it out of fear, not passion. I wouldn’t have been able to work on set with a clear mind. What’s the point of making a film if you’re not enjoying it?”
Now, Tarun is back with “Housefull 5”, a comedy starring Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, and Nargis Fakhri. The film has been doing well at the box office, with a collection of 154.25 crore rupees in the past ten days. Although the film’s budget is 225 crore rupees, it still has a chance to become a hit. Tarun’s journey has been a long and winding one, but he’s finally back on track, doing what he loves – making films.
