The box office is witnessing a slump in collections, with several recently released films struggling to perform. Two of the most anticipated releases, Housefull 5 and Thug Life, are finding it tough to meet their production costs.
Housefull 5 Underperforms
Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, and Ritesh Deshmukh starrer Housefull 5 was released with great fanfare. Despite a strong opening day collection of ₹24 crore, the film’s earnings have been declining steadily. On Thursday, it earned a mere ₹2.75 crore, less than half of its ₹4.25 crore on Wednesday. The film has so far grossed ₹168 crore, but with a production budget of ₹225 crore, it’s a challenging road to recovery.
Thug Life Fails to Impress
Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life is also underperforming at the box office. Made on a budget of ₹200 crore, the film has managed to collect only ₹47.73 crore so far. On its 15th day, it earned a paltry ₹21 lakh. While Kamal Haasan’s performance has been praised, the story has been criticized for being weak. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film failed to live up to expectations.
How to Train Your Dragon Holds Steady
In contrast, the Hollywood film How to Train Your Dragon, released on May 13, has maintained a steady performance. The live-action adaptation of the 2010 animated film has collected ₹15.41 crore so far. On Thursday, it earned ₹95 lakh, slightly higher than its ₹91 lakh on Wednesday. The film’s engaging storyline and visual effects have helped it retain audiences.
The current box office scenario is challenging for Housefull 5 and Thug Life, both struggling to break even. Meanwhile, How to Train Your Dragon continues to hold its ground, albeit at a slow pace. It remains to be seen if these films can boost their collections in the coming days.
