House of the Dragon premieres this week on the HBO Max streaming platform.
We have prepared a summary of what you need to know to watch the first episode of the Game of Thrones spin-off that promises to be just as addictive. Welcome back to Westeros…
House of the Dragon opens on August 22 in Portugal
The spin-off House of the Dragon is scheduled to premiere tomorrow, August 21 in the United States of America. But due to the time difference between the two countries, in Portugal the first episode will be broadcast on the streaming platform HBO Max, at two in the morning on August 22. Portuguese fans will literally have to wait awake for this broadcast.
The first season will have 10 episodes and will be based on the novel Fire & Blood by George RR Martin. Speaking to IGN, series executive producers Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik explained that “some things are the same, but others will be told differently. But the idea is that the events are the same.”
Developed to win over the same legions of fans as Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon will air weekly through the end of October.
Main characters

Viserys I Targaryen is the fifth king of the Seven Kingdoms and was chosen by a council of lords to succeed his grandfather. He is a king renowned for the kindness of him. Paddy Considine plays the part.
Rhaenyra Targaryen is the eldest daughter of King Viserys. Known for her dragons, she wants to be the first woman to rule the Seven Kingdoms. Emma D’Arcy embodies this character.
Daemon Targaryen is the supposed heir to the Iron Throne, as he is the younger brother of the King. Like his niece, he is an experienced dragon rider and a feared warrior. The role is played by Matt Smith.
The fight for the Iron Throne… again

The story focuses on the beginning and end of the Targaryen reign and the civil war known as The Dance of the Dragons. The battle, once again, takes place for the Iron Throne.
Aegon II, the king’s brother, and Rhaenyra, the king’s daughter, compete for power, creating fearsome tension among the Targaryens and forcing the various players to choose sides.
The epic battle is very relevant because it marks the beginning of the disappearance of the dragons, who, only eight generations later, reappear with Daenerys.
