Hours before his arrest, Bankman-Fried denied participating in ‘Wirefraud’ chat group

Just hours before authorities handcuffed Sam Bankman-Fried, he denied involvement in a secret chat group called “Wirefraud.” The group is rumored to include former directors of FTX and Alameda Research. According to an Australian newspaper the group was used to share classified information about FTX and Alameda leading up to the implosion.

Who were in the group?

The group included such figures as Zixiao “Gary” Wang (FTX co-founder), Nishad Singh (FTX engineer), and former CEO of Alameda Research Caroline Ellison. Sam Bankman-Fried, however, reacted to the story as if he had never heard of the group. “If this is true, then I was not a member of that inner circle. I’m pretty sure it’s not true; I’ve never heard of such a group,” said Sam Bankman-Fried.

Until recently, it was expected that Sam Bankman-Fried would appear before the US House of Representatives for a hearing. However, that ‘party’ is canceled because, as you know, the fallen CEO of FTX has now been arrested. Now he probably faces a decent punishment.

Customer credits

Where it ultimately went wrong was that Alameda Research used clients’ funds to trade. Don’t just trade, because they started trading margin with this. In effect, this means that they also used some kind of leverage on those funds, exposing the customers to huge losses. This made deputy FTX CEO John Ray known in a message to the House of Representatives.

It seems that everything is now gaining momentum and we can expect clarity about the future of Sam Bankman-Fried soon. It is hoped that he will receive a fair punishment for his misdeeds and that the users of FTX will see something of the funds they placed with the exchange platform. However, given the circumstances, the probability of this seems very small.
