Hoskins homers for third straight game as Phillies beat Mariners

Hoskins pega jonrón por tercer partido consecutivo, Filis vencen a Marineros

Rhys Hoskins homered for the third straight game and added all of Philadelphia’s runs with his second career grand slam as the Phillies beat the Seattle Mariners 4-2 on Wednesday night.

The Phillies took two of three games against the Mariners, buoyed by a barrage of homers from Hoskins, who hit solo homers in each of the first two games and saved the best for last.

He hadn’t hit a grand slam since March 28, 2019, when he faced Atlanta.

This time, he found a pitch from starter Logan Gilbert (4-1), on a 2-1 count. The ball hit the left field post with one out in the fourth inning.

Gilbert, who entered the day with the second-best ERA in the American League (1.36), retired nine of the top 10 batters, including five by striking out early.

However, he ran into trouble in the fourth, with a single by Alec Bohn and walks to Bryce Harper and Jean Segura. Hoskins followed with his fifth home run of the season.

Seranthony Domínguez (2-1), José Alvarado of Venezuela, Jeurys Familia and Corey Knebel combined to cover 4 1/3 innings of relief, allowing four hits and one run. Knebel earned his sixth save.

For the Phillies, the Dominican Segura 2-1 with a run scored. The Venezuelan Odúbel Herrera 4-0.

For the Mariners, the Dominican Julio Rodríguez 4-1 with an RBI. The Venezuelans Eugenio Suárez 4-0, Luis Torrens 4-0.
