Horford and Towns: Unique All Star

A total of 9 Dominicans have paraded for the best basketball in the world. Tito Horford was the pioneer, followed by Luis Felipe López, Luis Flores, Francisco García, Charlie Villanueva, Al Horford, Karl Towns Jr., Luis David Montero and Chris Duarte.

But only two have had the All Star category, they are Al Horford and Karl Towns.

The Puerto Plata native who debuted in the 2007-2008 season with the Atlanta Hawks and was selected to participate in the rookie game against second-year players in New Orleans 2009.

In that game he scored 19 points and captured 7 balls. The following year he played with the Sophomores team in the All-Star Game held in Phoenix. He scored 10 points with 3 rebounds.

His first choice for the all-star game came in the 2009-2010 season. He scored 8 points with 4 rebounds. In 2011 he was part of the Atlanta Hawks’ winning Shooting Stars team with Steve Smith and Coco Miller. He once again participated in the all-star game, in which he scored 2 points.

In the 2014-2015 campaign, Horford made history with the Hawks, along with his teammates Jeff Teague, Paul Millsap and Kyle Korver, marking the first time in franchise history that four players participated in the event and only the eighth time in the season. history of the competition that a team contributes four players to the All-Star.

Additionally, Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer led the Eastern conference. In that game, the Dominican scored 8 points with 7 rebounds.

In 2016, Horford again competed in the All-Star Game, finishing with 7 points and 3 rebounds.

That weekend in 2016, held in Toronto, was Karl Towns Jr.’s first date at the NBA all-star meeting, where he participated in the skills competition, in which he won.

In 2018, Towns and Horford were teammates on Team Stephen that lost 148-145 to Team Lebron. Towns had a double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Horford scored 6 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.

During the skills competitions of the 2018 All-Star Game, Al Horford, already wearing the Celtics jacket, competed against Joel Embiid, being eliminated in the first round.

In 2019, Towns played with Team Lebron, scored 11 points.

In 2022, Towns surprised by conquering the three-point competition, recording a record 29 points and making history as the only titled center in the competition. In his third participation in the All Star Game, he scored 9 points with 6 rebounds.

Chris Duarte lived the experience of NBA All-Star weekend in his first season. He was selected to play in the rookie game against sophomores, but due to an injury to his left foot he did not see action in the game.
