The chatter around Hollow Knight: Silksong often turns to its difficulty. Many players feel overwhelmed by tough challenges, hitting walls they can’t get past. But the game’s creators insist players have multiple paths and choices to finish the adventure. They say these options were designed with great care.
Ari Gibson and William Pellen, the minds behind Team Cherry, recently spoke about this with Jini Maxwell from Game Worlds. The two developers admitted Silksong is harder and more complex than the first game. Yet, they made sure players can explore freely, choosing where to go and what to do at their own pace.
For instance, players might spend hours fighting the same boss over and over. But the game also lets them explore to find items or extra weapons. These discoveries can make encounters much easier. This is how the team planned to reduce the game’s overall challenge.
The developers explained that players will quickly see how Silksong stands apart from its predecessor. Hornet’s unique movements, her various tools, and upgradeable weapons all play a part. Because of her abilities, the team had to make the enemies tougher and more skilled too.
“The basic Ant Warrior is based on Hornet’s own attack patterns from when she was a boss in the first game,” Pellen noted. “Her core moves were dashing, jumping, and lunging at you. Now, adding dodging and parrying makes her different from the Knight’s enemies in the first game. Hornet’s enemies in this game need more tools to handle her when she’s evading.”
This means giving enemies similar power to Hornet. It’s a fresh approach Team Cherry is trying for this installment.
