Historic Stromp Trophy Loss: Sporting Falls 3-2 to Sp. Tomar for First Time

Sporting Lisbon took an unexpected tumble against Sp. Tomar, losing 3-2 in the Troféu Stromp. This wasn’t just any defeat; it marked a first for the club. Since roller hockey officially returned in 2015, Sporting had always lifted this cup.

The Stromp Trophy typically serves as Sporting’s grand team presentation. It’s a chance for the “Lions” to showcase their new talent. Fans packed the Pavilhão João Rocha, buzzing with anticipation. They were eager to see the fresh faces in green and white.

Diogo Barata, who arrived from FC Porto, made his debut. Danilo Rampulla, a former OC Barcelos player, also played his first game. Facundo Navarro and Xano Edo, both joining from Oliveirense, stepped onto the pitch as new members of the squad. A significant change was also visible: Nolito Romero now wore the captain’s armband, inheriting it from long-time leader Ângelo Girão.

The match itself was a tight affair, balanced throughout. Xanoca opened the scoring for Sp. Tomar. However, Sporting quickly responded. Roc Pujadas and Rafa Bessa both found the net, turning the score around before halftime. It looked like the usual story for Sporting. Sp. Tomar had other plans after the break. Julian Tamborindegui and Ivo Silva, both new signings for coach Nuno Lopes’ team, completed a surprising comeback. Their second-half goals sealed the victory for the visitors.
