HighPoint Unveils 976TB External Storage Solution with 28GB/s Speed

Meet the RocketStor 6542AW, a beast of an external storage device from HighPoint. It packs a whopping 976 terabytes of storage and can transfer data at a blistering 28 GB/s. This thing is built for heavy-duty use in corporate environments and professional settings where massive amounts of data need to be stored and moved quickly.

The RocketStor 6542AW uses eight 122 TB Solidigm D5-P5336 SSDs, all configured for high-performance RAID. It’s clear this device is meant for serious business, like data centers, high-res video editing, and critical data backup.

One of the standout features of the RocketStor 6542AW is its compact design. Measuring just 23.5 x 12.3 x 23.5 cm, it’s got eight removable bays for 2.5-inch U.2/U.3 SSDs. You can hot-swap drives and set up RAID 0, 1, and 10 arrays.

Getting connected

The device uses a CDFP interface, paired with a Rocket 1544 PCIe adapter that needs a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot on the host computer. This connection can handle up to 32 GB/s, but the actual performance is capped at 28 GB/s due to the SSDs used.

Professional applications and pricing

The RocketStor 6542AW is clearly aimed at applications that need serious storage capacity and speed. We’re talking data centers, high-res video editing, and critical data backup. As for the price, HighPoint hasn’t given an official figure yet, but estimates suggest it could cost over $130,000 (around R$737,000) when you factor in the cost of the SSDs and the enclosure. That’s a serious investment, but for businesses that need this kind of storage horsepower, it might be worth it.

According to GameGPU, this device is a major player in the world of external storage. With its massive capacity and blazing speeds, the RocketStor 6542AW is definitely worth a look for any business that needs to handle large amounts of data.
