Hideo Kojima’s OD: Scanning Ghosts, Microsoft Shrine Visit

Imagine a world where game developers don’t just scan actors’ faces, but also the supernatural. That’s the wild goal Hideo Kojima has for his upcoming game, OD. He aims to bring actual “ghosts” right into the digital realm.

Kojima shared this strange tale during Kojima Productions’ tenth anniversary celebration. He mentioned picking up some spooky audio in his studio’s recording booth. Many would call it a ghost. While there’s no proof it was a real spirit, the famous director firmly believes it was. He described the recording as a crackling sound, one with no clear source that just happened to get caught on tape.

Getting that sound was just the start for Kojima. He explained, through an interpreter, that he wants to travel the globe. His plan is to visit truly scary places. In these locations, he hopes to scan more of these unexplained entities. He feels very strongly about this mission and even hopes to win awards for his unique efforts.

This mysterious studio sound had another interesting effect. At one point, it led Kojima to take representatives from Microsoft on a special trip. They visited a shrine together. The goal was simple: make sure the game would not end up haunted.

OD does not yet have an official release date.
