Hideo Kojima Stores Game Ideas in USB for Posthumous Use by Team

Hideo Kojima, the legendary creator behind Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding, has a plan to ensure his legacy lives on beyond his time. In a recent interview with EDGE Magazine, Kojima revealed that during the pandemic, he had a major health scare that made him reflect on his ambitions and the time he has left to create. After recovering, he compiled his game ideas into a USB stick and entrusted it to his personal assistant. This way, his team at Kojima Productions can continue developing his concepts even after he’s gone.

Kojima’s concern is that after he leaves, his studio might just manage existing IPs instead of pushing boundaries. “They might still be doing things after I’m gone from Kojima Productions. What I’m afraid of is what happens to Kojima Productions after this. I don’t want them to just manage the IPs we have,” Kojima said.

As Kojima turns 62 in August 2025, he reflects on how the pandemic was a turning point. His illness, surgeries, and seeing people around him pass away made him question how many more years he has to create the games and movies he wants.

What’s Next for Kojima Productions?

Kojima’s upcoming game, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, is almost ready for release. Other projects like OD and Physint are also in development. Fans hope these new games will captivate them as much as his previous works.
