Former England captain Nasser Hussain has praised the commitment of fast bowler Stuart Broad, who performed brilliantly in the first Test of the 2023 Ashes series against Australia. He says that Broad will give it his all until he retires.
Stuart Broad took three wickets in the first innings of the first Test of the Ashes series played at Edgbaston. Following this, he too took three wickets in the second innings. In the first innings, Broad dismissed David Warner and Marnus Labushen on two consecutive balls. Broad dismissed Marnus Labuschagne (13) and Steve Smith (6) in the final session of day four play to give the hosts a lead in the Edgbaston Test.
Nasser Hussain wrote in his column for The Daily Mail: “He (Stuard Broad) can say he has given his all to the game and will give it his all until he retires. What makes him special is his understanding of the game.” The understanding of him taking out veteran players is fantastic.”
He further wrote: “You can see Broad dealing with this. This is his ninth and probably last Ashes series, if we look at his last eight Ashes series then it will be known that his record against Australia is the same, because it must be considered”. He will always be remembered. Even at the age of 36, he seems to be in the same rhythm as always. He worked properly on his outswinger, which laid out Labushen and Smith in the fourth inning.
England declared their first innings by scoring 393 runs. Following this, Australia had scored 386 runs in their first innings. In the second innings England scored 273 runs and set a target of 281 runs against Australia, which the visiting team achieved by losing eight wickets in the dying moments of the match.
Although Australia defeated England in the first series of the Ashes Test, the excitement of this match was beyond all bounds. Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon gave Australia the win with their batting. With this, the Kangaroos took a 1-0 lead in the five game series.
