The American Russell Henley signed this Friday a second round of 63 strokes to become the new leader of the Mayakoba PGA tournament, in which the Argentine Emiliano Grillo and the Colombian Sebastián Muñoz they are the only Latinos alive when they make it through the cut.
Henley was the second best on the first day, last Thursday, in which he also signed 63 shots. In the second, the 59th-ranked golfer in the world made four birdies. American Will Gordon, the surprise leader of the first round, fell to second place after finishing with 67 shots. Defending champion Viktor Hovland is still not showing his best golf and has now dropped from seventh to fourteenth place due to his 69 strokes.
Grillo is the best Latino located being twenty-ninth, the same place as the favorite to take Mayakoba, the American Scottie Scheffler, second in the PGA ranking; Munoz is in 55th place.
The contest, which takes place at the ‘El chameleon’ club in the Riviera Maya, in the Mexican Caribbean, distributes a bag of 8.2 million dollars and this Saturday it will continue with its third and penultimate round.
