The UK government expects forecourt retailers to report fuel price changes within 30 minutes. Recognizing the absurdity of relying on station managers to manually log pump data to meet this mandate, Henderson Technology has deployed an automated reporting function to its EDGEPoS system.
The software establishes a direct link with the government’s Fuel Finder API. It extracts price adjustments directly from compatible fuel controllers and transmits the data, alerting operators only if a submission fails.
Market Volatility Forces Compliance
The software update arrives amid severe pricing instability. Crude oil recently surged from $75 to nearly $120 a barrel due to geopolitical conflicts. The spike drove UK pump prices to 170.9p for unleaded and 182.9p for diesel in Sheffield.
The pricing surge led Horsham MP John Milne to call for an Ofgem-style price cap and the removal of VAT on heating oil, a move aimed at protecting 1.5 million oil-heated homes in the UK. The government’s broader 2026 Fuel Finder scheme is designed to force real-time pricing transparency and stimulate retail competition.
Henderson Technology is releasing this retail technology completely free of charge to all existing EDGEPoS users to mitigate operational risks and administrative bottlenecks.
Hardware Race on the Forecourt
The 30-minute compliance window is triggering a rapid response among electronic point-of-sale suppliers. In January 2026, rival TSG UK Solutions announced its own automated reporting system for forecourts.
Henderson Technology operates across more than 800 global sites. The new EDGEPoS update specifically integrates with Tokheim and Enabler 4 fuel controllers to bypass human intervention entirely.
“Fuel price transparency is becoming an increasingly important focus across the industry,” Henderson Technology retail technology operations director Darren Nickels said.
