Hema Malini has worked on many successful films in her film career. Apart from movies, Hema is famous for her style and fashion. Kanjeevaram saris occupy a huge place in Hema’s wardrobe of 72. Her outfit is incomplete without it, although few people know that at one point she was ridiculed for wearing these saris as well.
Hema had revealed this in an interview and told her that her mother, Jaya Chakraborty, had advised her to wear a sari with traditional clothing. So Hema had said not to do it, but she couldn’t pull it off. Hema had said, my mother used to make me wear a heavy Kanjeevaram saree. So I used to oppose him, but that didn’t affect him. The producers’ wife, who used to be mostly Punjabi, used to poke fun at the sari and my colorful blouse and say, ‘Woh dekho madrasan aa gayi.’ My mother had a great influence on me. Whatever it is, I am because of him. It inspired me to learn classical dance. I couldn’t have accomplished all of this if I hadn’t been a dancer.
My mother Smt Jaya Chakravarthy, affectionately called Mummy by all who knew her, was an iconic figure in Mumbai, respected by all, she left us on this day 17 years ago. To me, she was everything: she made me what I am and shaped my career. I feel his presence guiding me even today. pic.twitter.com/QevfKGFU7c

Let us tell you that on the 17th anniversary of her mother’s death in June this year, Hema shared a post in memory of her mother on Twitter and wrote: My mother used to be an iconic figure in Mumbai, she was respected by everyone. He left us 17 years ago. It gave a new dimension to me and my career. I still feel her presence and she always shows me the way.
