De Hema is selling its own bakeries. The bakeries for the cakes and the tompouces were sold to the bakery company Bacu in Uden. Bacu is the supplier of bread and pastries to the Jumbo supermarkets.

According to Hema, nothing will change for the customer. “All Hema pastries, cakes, pies and also the tompouces continue to be prepared exclusively for Hema by the same employees, in the same bakeries and according to the same recipe”.

The Bacu family business is taking over the central Hema bakery in Almere and the regional bakeries in Sneek, Zwolle, Doetinchem, Dordrecht and Helmond. The 250 employees of the Hema bakeries will all be transferred to the new owner and will keep their jobs.

Jumbo family

Bacu employs 550 people who daily supply the 700 Jumbo stores with bread and pastries. With the Hema bakeries, Bacu is the largest confectionery in the Netherlands.

According to the Hema, the sale of the bakeries is part of the strategic reorganization of the department stores. Since last year, the Hema department stores have been in the hands of investment company Parcom and the Van Eerd family, the owner of the Jumbo supermarket chain. The sale price has not been disclosed.
