Health pass: opponents mobilized for a sixth round

They will once again make their voices heard. Like last week, more than 200 actions are planned today in France against the health pass. This is the sixth consecutive mobilization weekend.

The demonstrators denounce a deprivation of freedoms and a vaccination obligation. They will gather in several large cities in France, such as Lille (Nord), Angers (Maine-et-Loire), Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), Montpellier (Hérault) or Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin). Other smaller towns, such as Dieppe (Seine-Maritime), Epinal (Vosges) or Vichy (Allier) are also concerned.

In Paris, four processions are announced. Two are organized by the yellow vests: one will leave from Place de Fontenoy (7th arrondissement) at 1 p.m., and the other from Place de la Bourse (2nd arrondissement) at 3 p.m.

The former number 2 of the National Rally and president of the Patriots Florian Philippot will lead his own parade from Place Denfert-Rochereau (14th arrondissement) at 2:30 p.m. The last procession is planned by the Paris pour la liberté collective, with a departure scheduled from Place du Châtelet (1st arrondissement) at 2:30 p.m. In total, between 14,000 and 17,000 participants are expected in the capital.

More than 200,000 demonstrators expected

The organizers hope to once again exceed the threshold of 200,000 demonstrators mobilized throughout France. Last week, the rallies brought together 214,843 people according to the Interior Ministry, and 388,843 people according to the militant collective the Yellow Number. The two results showed a slight drop in participation compared to August 7 (237,000 demonstrators).

However, it remains twice as high as during the first day of mobilization, in which 110,000 people participated on July 17. These demonstrators have very different profiles, ranging from conspirators to far-right activists, including yellow vests, caregivers, families … Their common point is to denounce a “health dictatorship”.

Since August 9, the health pass is mandatory in bars, restaurants and long-distance journeys. It was already in demand in cultural venues and sports halls. More than 120 large shopping centers in France also have the obligation to control it since August 16.
