Hays single allows Orioles to avoid sweep, beat Rangers 3-2 with 13th save from Bautista

Austin Hays drove in the winning run with a single in the eighth inning and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Texas Rangers 3-2 on Sunday to avoid a sweep in a three-game series.

After Texas tied it in the top of the eighth, Cedric Mullins led off the bottom half against Cole Ragans (2-2). Adley Rutschman responded with a single, and Hays greeted Joe Barlow with a hard grounder up the middle with the infield up front.

Felix Bautista struck out three in the ninth for his 13th save in 17 chances.

Despite the loss, Texas has won 10 of 14 and has lost only one of its last 10 series. The AL West leaders have the third-best record in the majors after finishing fourth last year with a 68-94 record.

For the Rangers, Cuban Adonis García 4-1.

For the Orioles, Venezuelan Anthony Santander 3-0. The Mexican Ramón Urías 3-0. The Dominican Jorge Mateo of 3-1.
