A 16-year-old teenager drowned in the Garonne while trying to rescue a 6-year-old girl.
His body was found this Saturday, August 28, on a bank, south of Toulouse, after more than 2 hours of search, reports The Dispatch.
The victim was bathing with his relatives at a place called Aouach, in the town of Fauga (Haute-Garonne), when the little girl, a member of her family, was taken by the current.
He then came to her aid before being in turn carried away by the waves. An important device had quickly been put in place to find him.
Divers firefighters, aided by other firefighters and gendarmes, had combed the banks while a helicopter flew over the area.

An investigation entrusted to the gendarmes was opened to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy. An autopsy will also be performed to determine the causes of death.
“It’s terrible for this boy’s family and for this young man who had his life ahead of him. How not to be sorry, collapsed ”, reacted to the regional daily Jean-Marie Puig, mayor of Fauga.
“But I implore all the people who come to l’Aouach: this drama must remind everyone that it is absolutely necessary to respect the set rules and in particular when swimming is prohibited,” she continued. Such a tragedy must not be able to happen again. “
