Harvest Fair Forces Arouca-FC Porto Postponement, Liga Shifts Other Games

Match scheduling altered

The football calendar just got a fresh twist. News broke this Wednesday from the League about a significant schedule change. The much-anticipated Arouca versus FC Porto match, part of the Betclic League’s seventh round, will no longer happen on Sunday, the 28th of this month. Instead, fans should mark their calendars for Monday, the 29th, with kickoff set for 8:00 PM.

This shift isn’t about player fitness or travel logistics. It’s all thanks to the “Feira das Colheitas,” or Harvest Festival. This annual event draws thousands of visitors to Arouca, turning the town into a bustling hub. The local municipality of Arouca had raised concerns. They worried about managing security for both the large festival crowd and a major football match happening on the same Sunday. It simply posed too many challenges.

While local life often takes precedence, some aren’t thrilled with the change. FC Porto, for instance, wasn’t particularly keen on moving the game from its original Sunday slot. Sometimes, big clubs find these last-minute adjustments hard to swallow.

One change often leads to another. In light of the Arouca-FC Porto switch, and after talking with the television broadcasters, the Liga Portugal made another announcement. The Famalicão versus Rio Ave game, originally planned for the 29th, will now take place a day earlier. Catch that match on the 28th, starting at 8:30 PM. It shows how one decision can set off a chain reaction across the entire league schedule.
