Hansal Mehta Hits Back At Kangana Ranaut Over Free Speech Row

Comedian Kunal Kamra’s stand-up act sparked a firestorm. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta and actress Kangana Ranaut got into a heated exchange on social media. Kamra joked about Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, leading to vandalism at the studio where he performed. The BMC later demolished the studio.

Hansal, vocal about the incident, faced a question from an X user: Why didn’t he support Kangana when her house was demolished? This sparked a war of words between Hansal and Kangana. Hansal tweeted, questioning whether Kangana’s home was truly vandalized and if goons entered her premises. He asked if her freedom of expression was challenged or if the alleged FSI violation prompted the action.

Kangana hit back, pointing out Hansal’s silence when her home was demolished. She shared her pain, saying Hansal called her names, threatened her, and watched her house get bulldozed. The high court deemed the demolition illegal. Hansal responded with a blunt “get well soon.”

The feud began when Hansal shared a tweet criticizing Kamra. Kangana jumped into the fray, criticizing Hansal for not standing up for her when her house was demolished. Hansal recalled how his office was vandalized by the Shiv Sena party in 2000 after his film “Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar” released. He was forced to apologize. The memory still stings.

In 2020, the BMC, led by the Shiv Sena, demolished Kangana’s Bandra bungalow, citing illegal construction. This happened after her public spat with the then-Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Kangana called Hansal “bitter and foolish” for his stance. Hansal’s response only added fuel to the fire. The battle between the two continues, with no end in sight.
