Handball: Sporting Visits Braga, Eyes Nantes Champions League Clash

Sporting visits Braga before Nantes duel

Sporting faces a tricky balancing act this Saturday. They travel to Braga to play Arsenal da Devesa in their sixth league match. However, many eyes are already looking ahead to Wednesday. That’s when they host Nantes in the Champions League, a crucial European showdown.

This domestic fixture presents a real test of focus for the Lisbon giants. They aim to keep their high tempo and perfect winning streak alive. But playing a less heralded opponent right before a major European clash can be a real trap. It requires intense concentration to avoid a stumble.

Sporting’s winger, Diogo Branquinho, spoke openly about this challenge on the club’s website. “We know we should win this game,” he admitted. “That means we actually have everything to lose.” He expects Arsenal da Devesa to put up a strong fight. “I’m sure they will give their maximum effort,” Branquinho said, “and they can make the game very difficult for us.” He also acknowledged the demanding schedule ahead. “This coming week will be very complicated,” he noted. Yet, he sees the positive side: “Having too many games is a good ‘problem’ to have. It simply means we are still competing in all competitions.”

Other major clubs also hit the pitch this Saturday for the sixth round of matches. Benfica travels to face V. Guimarães. Meanwhile, FC Porto makes the trip to play Póvoa AC. The day promises plenty of action across the league.
