Hamas Accepts 60-Day Ceasefire Proposal, Agrees to Release Hostages

A breakthrough in the Middle East conflict. Hamas has agreed to a 60-day ceasefire proposed by US Envoy Steve Witkoff. The group will release 10 Israeli hostages and return 18 bodies of those who died.

This move is a significant step towards peace. Hamas has been negotiating with mediators to finalize the deal. They want a permanent ceasefire, Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and guaranteed humanitarian aid.

The US proposal, accepted by Israel, outlines a 60-day ceasefire. Hamas must return 28 hostages, dead or alive, in the first week. They will release 30 more when the ceasefire is permanent. Israel will free 1,236 Palestinian prisoners and return 180 bodies. The UN and other organizations will provide humanitarian aid.

But will Israel meet Hamas’ demands? Defense Minister Israel Katz warned Hamas to accept the proposal or face destruction. “Hamas terrorists will be forced to choose between accepting the Witkoff agreement and releasing hostages or being destroyed,” he said. The Israeli military will continue to operate in Gaza, evacuating civilians and targeting enemy areas by land, air, and sea.
