A recent court decision has resulted in former senator Gustavo Penadés and teacher Sebastián Mauvezín being placed under total house arrest with electronic anklets. This decision was made on Wednesday, marking a significant development in their cases.
Following the hearing, Gustavo Penadés’ lawyer, Laura Robatto, addressed the media, stating that a letter had been submitted to the Supreme Court of Justice and the Nation Attorney General. The letter denounces “illegal acts” found on Jonathan Mastropierro’s cell phone, which have been described as “sexual” in nature. Robatto discussed the primary focus of Wednesday’s judicial instance, which centered on replacing one precautionary measure with another. She emphasized that while freedom has not been granted, the new measure, although strict, is seen as a necessary step after a year and four months. Robatto noted that the possible risks associated with the case appear to have decreased over time.
Robatto also expressed that after a year and four months, it is only natural for anyone to want to know who their accuser is. Furthermore, she highlighted the significance of this information in the context of the case.
Sebastián Mauvezín’s lawyer expressed surprise at the decision, viewing it as a positive outcome where a more burdensome precautionary measure was replaced with a less restrictive one. The lawyer stated, “I am surprised, I did not expect it, not because it did not correspond but because we have hit a reality that we do not want in the criminal process on several occasions.”
Dahiana Abracinskas, representing Mauvezín, noted that her client has no connection to a parallel investigation and is not known by anyone involved. The victims in the case have reserved their identities, and Mauvezín will be confined to his house with a prohibition on communication. None of the victims, including a new witness with a reserved identity, have expressed fear of Sebastián Mauvezín. Abracinskas considered the new measure to be appropriate and a positive development, stating, “So the right thing and what corresponded was at least this measure, so we are very satisfied.”
