Gustavo Alfaro: "I have to analyze if I continue directing"

The Argentinian Gustavo Alfaro, coach of the Ecuadorian team, questioned the continuity of his professional career on Tuesday for “personal reasons”after the defeat against Senegal (2-1) for the third and last date of group A that left his team out of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

“I need time to find out what I’m going to do,” said the man from Santa Fe about the end of the press conference he gave after Ecuador’s elimination after losing 2-1 at Khalifa International Stadium. “This is not the time to analyze. We agreed to meet with the Federation (of Ecuador) after the World Cup. I feel that I have to stop the ball and see what I want to do with my career and if I continue directing or not”, raised the former DT of Boca Juniors.

Some day this moment was going to arrive but the most prudent thing is not to pronounce myself now because I am overwhelmed by the pain of elimination.”added the 60-year-old coach, who warned that the decision is not linked to the sporting result since they are “personal matters” which he analyzes “a while ago”. “These things had been maturing for a long time and now I will analyze them with my family. It is a personal matter that I want to think about and analyze very well,” she completed.

To summarize the elimination of Ecuador after having achieved with great effort the tie that classified it to the round of 16, Alfaro pointed out the “details” that make this competition unique. “Small details make big differences,” he stressed.
