Guruzeta: “I keep working to have these opportunities”

Gorka Guruzeta was one of the few who stood out in the Montilivi debacle after the 2-1 slap against Girona. Author of the rojiblanco goal, Athletic’s striker explains the defeat that “in the end, when we got 2-1 we have lacked to be deep and to have some more occasion. We’ve found a Girona side that has done things very well, we haven’t put the pressure on like the other day against Villarreal”. What’s more, the striker from San Sebastian wanted to be more graphic: “They played with a tight ass and we were more relaxed, screwed for not adding,” he concludes given the lack of intensity of the lions on other occasions.

He wants to be practical about his goal: “Very happy, I keep working to have these opportunities. A pity that it did not serve to win. If De Marcos didn’t get to touch it, he wouldn’t have finished it off because the ball was going very low”, slides sincere and obediently points out that he has “come to add for whatever the coach wants,” he says modestly. This is his third LaLiga goal after the two converted in Cádiz. “We came with all the hope to get the three points and face Tuesday’s game to win against Valladolid”, adds Guruzeta, who prefers to look at the medium term. “The goal is to be up on matchday 38, it’s going to be long,” he analyzes.

For his part, Óscar de Marcos maintains that Athletic had not “come up to the task. We have to be one hundred percent every game to play the game we want, if we’re not intense it shows a lot and they overwhelm us. The closer you are to the area, the closer you are to winning and Girona has been closer”, underlines the Laguardia side. Defeat is part of learning: “It is part of football and the growth of the team and of each player. You go home screwed and you have to not repeat it ”, finishes off the lane, who jumped in Girona supplying Lekue after being available after leaving the Villarreal game due to gastric problems.
