Gujarat Titans chased down 204 runs on their home ground, Narendra Modi Stadium, against Delhi Capitals. Delhi scored 203 in their allotted 20 overs.
Gujarat’s start was shaky, losing captain Shubman Gill for just 5 runs. Sai Sudharsan added 36 runs before getting out, leaving Gujarat at 74/2 and still needing 130 runs to win.
Butler and Rutherford Stepped Up
Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford took over, pushing Gujarat close to the target. Rutherford got out for 43, but Buttler kept going.
Rahul Tewatia sealed the win with a six off the fourth ball of the final over. Gujarat needed 10 runs off the last six balls, with Mitchell Starc bowling. Tewatia hit a six off the first ball and a four off the second, making it 5 balls to spare. Buttler ended on 97 not out.
A Historic Chase
This was the second-highest successful run chase at Narendra Modi Stadium in IPL history. KKR holds the record, having chased 206 against Gujarat in 2023. RCB has also chased down over 200 here. Delhi failed to defend a total above 200 for the first time in IPL history.
Delhi’s inability to defend a big total highlighted their vulnerabilities. Gujarat’s win was a statement, showing their strength at home. Buttler’s 97 not out was the star performance, while Tewatia’s cameo won them the match. This win puts Gujarat in a strong position, and their next match will be eagerly awaited.
