Gujarat Giants Achieve Historic Feat in WPL with Unique Record

The Gujarat Giants’ victory over the UP Warriorz in the WPL 2025 match was nothing short of remarkable. Gujarat captain Ashley Gardner made a bold decision to bowl first after winning the toss, and it paid off in the end. The UP team struggled to score, managing only 143 runs in 20 overs. In response, the Gujarat team put up a stellar performance, with Gardner, Harleen Deol, and Deandra Dotin leading the charge. Their impressive innings helped Gujarat easily achieve the target, marking a historic win for the team.

The Turning Point for Gujarat

Gardner was in excellent form, scoring 52 runs for Gujarat. Deol chipped in with 34 runs, while Dotin contributed 33 runs. These outstanding performances were instrumental in Gujarat’s win, making it the first time in WPL history that they’ve achieved this feat. On the other hand, Sophie Ecotlin’s two wickets for UP Warriorz were notable, but the rest of the team failed to make a significant impact.

UP Warriorz’s Batting Woes

Deepti Sharma, the UP Warriorz captain, scored 39 runs in 27 balls while batting first. Other notable contributions came from Uma Chhetri with 24 runs, Shweta Sehrawat with 16 runs, Alana King with 19 runs, and Cyima Thakor with 15 runs. However, Diandra Dotin and Gardner’s bowling proved too strong, dismissing Kiran Navgire and Vrinda Dinesh cheaply. The third over was particularly costly for UP Warriorz, with 22 runs scored but two wickets lost. Dotin took out Navgire, and Gardner bowled Dinesh.

Priya Mishra’s Stellar Bowling

Uma Chhetri and Deepti Sharma tried to steady the innings, but Gujarat’s bowlers were too economical. The powerplay score was 41 runs for two wickets. Dotin broke the 43-ball 50-run partnership between Chhetri and Sharma, dismissing Chhetri. The Gujarat bowlers were on fire, with Priya Mishra taking three wickets for 25 runs in four overs. Captain Ashley Gardner took two wickets for 39 runs, while Deendra Dotin took two wickets for 34 runs. Keshavi Gautam also chipped in with one wicket. In the end, UP Warriorz managed only 143 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs.
