The luxury fashion company Gucci will, among other things, accept bitcoin (BTC) as a payment method in its stores. That reports Vogue Business† It will initially be a pilot, but the intention is that crypto will eventually be accepted in all 111 stores in the United States.
Buy Gucci with Bitcoin
Finally it will be possible to buy a real Gucci neck bag, or whatever you want, with your bitcoin winnings! From the end of this month, the brand will start a pilot in five stores in the US. In these stores, customers can pay for their products with crypto.
Customers can pay with 10 different cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, bitcoin cash (BCH), ethereum (ETH), wrapped bitcoin (wBTC), litecoin (LTC), shiba inu (SHIB) and five stablecoins. When customers want to pay for their Gucci items, they receive a QR code as an email after which they can use it within their own crypto wallet to make the payment.
Unfortunately, it is now only about stores in the US. However, if it turns out to be a success, the step to Europe and the rest of the world could of course be made easier. Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri says of the move his company took:
“Gucci is always looking for new technologies that can provide our customers with an improved experience […] Now that we can integrate cryptocurrencies into our payment system, it is a natural evolution for those customers who want this option at their disposal.”
Gucci previously issued NFTs
Gucci is already quite active in the web3 world. This is how it gave different before non-fungible token (NFT) collections. People who own these Gucci NFTs receive all kinds of benefits, for example they can pre-order new (physical) collections.
It is not the only brand that has entered the crypto world, by the way. Dolce & Gabbana also launched NFTs on the Polygon (MATIC) network.
