Guatemala: Migrants from Honduras, trying to reach the United States, brutally stopped by the police

Nine hundred migrants from Honduras, fleeing from misery, began a walk towards the American dream. This was abruptly stopped. In one photograph, huddled migrants face a police wall. These 900 migrants left on Friday, January 15th, from Pedro Sula, in Honduras. They intended to cross to Guatemala, then to Mexico, to reach the United States. In total, they should have walked 3,400 kilometers during the four-month trip.

The police were crushed at the first border post between the Honduras and Guatemala. Migrants are fleeing poverty, but also from gangs and repeated hurricanes. “They have to let us go, we have no work, no salary, nothing”, criticizes a Honduran. In Guatemala, the trip ended. Armed with tear gas and batons, the police dispersed the migrants.
