Guardiola: "I will be judged by what I do in the Champions League"

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City coach, assured that his cycle in the English team will be judged based on the results he obtains in the Champions League, regardless of the achievements made in other competitions.

Since he arrived at the team in 2016, Guardiola has not missed the appointment with the quarterfinals except in his first season, when Monaco eliminated them in the round of 16. Since then, City has accumulated five consecutive appearances in the quarterfinals and this Tuesday they can add one more if they beat German RB Leipzig after the 1-1 draw in the first leg.

“Yes,” Guardiola replied when asked if his time in Manchester will be judged by his successes in the Champions League, where his top is the 2021 final, lost to Chelsea, and last year’s semifinals, when they were eliminated by Real Madrid . “I don’t want to say that I agree with it, but I am sure that I will be judged by this competition,” added the Spanish coach, who with Manchester City won more than a dozen titles, including four of the last five Premier League.

This campaign, City is still alive in the Premier, five points behind Arsenal, in the FA Cup, where it is in the quarterfinals, and in the Champions League. “It is very important to continue in these competitions, because they allow you to remain competitive in the last two months of the season. To continue trying to get closer to Arsenal, to continue in Europe… That would be good,” Guardiola said.
