When will publisher Rockstar release Grand Theft Auto 6? This question has been plaguing fans of the cult game series for years. Now Strauss Zelnick has revealed which detail will determine when GTA 6 will appear. Strauss Zelnick should know because he is the CEO of Take-Two, which is Rockstar’s parent company.
So far it is only vaguely known that GTA 6 will be released in 2025. But when exactly, Rockstar has so far left it open. In an investor conversation about Take-Two’s quarterly figures, Zelnick said that Rockstar would publish the game when it is “creatively optimized”. Zelnick also emphasized that Rockstar strives for perfection, as the gaming news portal Gamesradar reports.
We strive for perfection, and when we feel like we’ve optimized our creativity, it’s time to publish.
Such an answer will quickly make shareholders sweat in fear, because then they could fear that the release will be further and further delayed. But investors want to see money, i.e. a potential blockbuster like GTA 6 should finally bring in money and not just eat up a lot of money for development. Zelnick is therefore trying to reassure investors, assuring that “we are all in this together” and that both developers and executives have financial incentives to ensure that development does not drag on forever.
“There is an inherent tension between getting to market and creating perfection. But this company chooses perfection,” adds Zelnick.
Compared to GTA 5, the expectations are much, much higher, says Zelnick. On the other hand, the 195 million units of GTA 5 sold to date are not to be despised.
How much the fans are looking forward to GTA 6 can be seen in the number of views for the GTA 6 trailer that Rockstar published. The trailer was viewed 93 million times in the first 24 hours after its release alone. According to Take-Two, the GTA 6 trailer is the most successful video debut on YouTube of all time, if you exclude music videos.
