Dealing with phobias can be tough, especially when they pop up in your favorite video games. If you’re someone who gets the creeps from crawling insects, you know the struggle. Luckily, the player community often steps in where game developers leave off, offering creative solutions.
Take Grounded 2, for example. This survival adventure game recently launched in Early Access. Players shrink down to tiny size, exploring a backyard full of giant, sometimes scary, bugs. Many new players, despite being excited for the game, quickly found their insect fears too strong to continue playing. The developers did add a special ‘arachnophobia mode’ to make spiders less frightening. That was a good start.
However, spiders aren’t the only critters that give people the willies. Cockroaches are another big problem for some. That’s where a clever modder named Sirgalahad172 stepped in. They created a special download for the game called the “Riddikulus Mod.” This mod takes the realistic, creepy cockroach models and transforms them.

Instead of their usual gross look, the roaches now appear much funnier and more amusing. Imagine a scary bug suddenly looking like a goofy cartoon character. The idea is to make them less terrifying and easier for players to face. It’s a neat trick to turn fear into something silly.
Does it work for everyone? Well, not exactly. Some players have reported that even with the clown-like roaches, their fear didn’t go away at all. But for others, seeing a giant, silly insect might just be enough to make the game playable. At the very least, it’s probably a lot better than the standard, realistic roach models that come with the game. It’s an interesting example of how mods can open up games to more people.
Grounded 2 is available now for PC players.
