Grimsby Town pulled off a shocking victory in the League Cup. They beat Manchester United in a thrilling penalty shootout. The biggest hero of the night, goalkeeper Christy Pym, found himself in a strange position. After making crucial saves, he admitted he was “a bit annoyed” about Ruben Amorim’s team losing. You see, Pym is a dedicated fan of the Red Devils himself.
“I still haven’t really processed what just happened,” the 30-year-old goalie told Sky Sports. His team plays in the fourth tier of English football. “I’m a Manchester United fan, so yeah, I’m a little bit irritated. But nights like this are why we play football. So, it was a beautiful experience.”
Pym then shared how they prepared for such a moment. He and Steve, their goalkeeper coach, put in serious work. “Steve and I spent about four hours just practicing penalties,” Pym explained. “We did it just in case we needed it.” That hard work paid off big time when Pym blocked a shot from Matheus Cunha. “I kept trying to change my approach, and it was a bit frustrating,” he added. “But saving that one shot was huge. It kept us in the game. And then the rest of the guys did their part. They were absolutely brilliant.”
