Gregg Popovich, the 76-year-old San Antonio Spurs coach, had a medical emergency while dining out in San Antonio. Local authorities received a call about an elderly man fainting at a restaurant. The NBA coach was rushed to the hospital by ambulance.
Current Condition
Shams Charania, an NBA journalist, reported that Popovich is stable and at home. He is still recovering from a heart attack on November 2, before a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Coaching Future Uncertain
Popovich’s assistant coach, Mitch Johnson, has taken over as interim head coach until the end of the season. It’s unclear if Popovich will be able to return to coaching next season, despite having a contract with the Spurs until 2028. Popovich has been the Spurs coach since 1996 and has won five NBA titles during his tenure – in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014.
