Colombian singer Greeicy Rendón is facing a challenging period following the arrest of her father, Luis Alberto Rendón. Known artistically as ‘El Cachorro’, Rendón was detained by the National Police in Cali on October 12 and subsequently charged with kidnapping and torture.
The allegations stem from an incident in May 2023 at a farm in Llano Grande, Antioquia, according to the Attorney General’s Office. Investigators state that two caretakers were allegedly assaulted and tortured. This reportedly occurred after a safe containing approximately $155,000 USD was purportedly stolen from the property.
Authorities indicate Luis Alberto Rendón is accused of being the instigator. He allegedly ordered two other men, Élder Velázquez and José Francisco, to carry out the torture. The aim was reportedly to extract information about the missing money.
Judicial reports detail that one worker was taken to a room and violently assaulted. The other was tied to a post and repeatedly beaten. Neighbors, alerted by shouts for help, called the police, ending the alleged ordeal.
Luis Alberto Rendón has denied the accusations. He was granted house arrest.
Amidst the controversy, Greeicy Rendón addressed the situation in a video posted to her Instagram account. The artist shared family images and an emotional message. She spoke in defense of the values instilled in her by her family.
Rendón asserted that the strong values that define her as a human being come from her family. She emphasized that they taught her to work hard, honestly, and never to exploit others. They also taught her to always be fair and do things correctly.
The 32-year-old singer, who collaborated on Karol G’s album ‘Tropicoqueta’ this year, expressed deep love and respect for her family. She maintained her belief in human kindness. She stated it is painful when those closest to you are targeted, especially when you know their inherent goodness.
Greeicy concluded her statement with a reflective thought: “Conscience taught us that if it’s clean, one rests well.” Her followers’ opinions on the matter remain divided.
Luis Alberto Rendón has also pursued a music career as ‘El Cachorro’. He has received support from his daughter and singer Mike Bahía, Greeicy’s long-time partner. He debuted in 2021 with ‘Ese disco’, followed by ‘Entre los dos’, and released the album ‘Flor de París’ in 2023.
