GPU Market Shifts: NVIDIA Dips, AMD Grows, Intel Reaches Historic 1% Share

NVIDIA’s overwhelming dominance in the dedicated graphics card market showed a slight softening in the third quarter of 2025, with competitors AMD and Intel gaining ground amidst an overall slowdown in market growth.

The latest report from Jon Peddie Research (JPR), released in early December 2025, indicates that while NVIDIA still commands 92% of the market for dedicated desktop GPUs, this figure represents a two-percentage-point decrease from the previous quarter.

AMD, propelled by strong reception for its new Radeon RX 9000 (RDNA 4) series, increased its market share to 7%, a gain of nearly one percentage point. This marks a notable recovery for the company after years of intense competition.

Intel, a newcomer to the dedicated GPU segment, achieved a symbolic 1% market share. This milestone signifies the company’s official entry as a third, albeit small, competitor, having previously fallen below statistical reporting thresholds.

The total volume of dedicated desktop graphics cards sold reached 12 million units, reflecting a modest 2.8% growth compared to the prior quarter. This growth rate is significantly below the historical average of around 11% for the period.

JPR attributes this deceleration to an inflated second quarter, which saw an unusual surge in consumer purchases. Buyers reportedly accelerated their acquisitions in anticipation of potential tariffs in the United States.

Despite these shifts, JPR’s long-term outlook for the market is cautious, with the firm projecting a retraction in overall market size until 2029.
