Govinda Reveals BR Chopra Threw Him Out Of Office

The iconic series “Mahabharat” by B.R. Chopra has been a game-changer for many actors, not only in the television world but also in the Hindi film industry. Several actors were offered roles in the show, including Govinda, who was initially considered for the character of Abhimanyu. However, the actor turned down the offer, which led to an interesting and somewhat dramatic encounter with B.R. Chopra himself.

In a recent conversation with Mukesh Khanna on his YouTube channel “Bheeshm International,” Govinda shared the story of how he used to visit the Chopra residence to help Renu Chopra, B.R. Chopra’s wife, with her work. One day, Renu called Govinda, asking him to come over and help with some household chores, as she wasn’t feeling well. Govinda assumed that B.R. Chopra was unaware of this arrangement, given that he knew about Govinda’s visits and the affection Renu had for him.

It turns out that Govinda had been selected for the role of Abhimanyu in “Mahabharat” and was called to B.R. Chopra’s office. Although he hadn’t auditioned for the part, he was informed that he had been chosen. However, when Govinda expressed his reluctance to take on the role, citing his mother’s disapproval, B.R. Chopra was taken aback. Govinda explained that his mother, a seasoned actress herself, had advised him against it, and he prioritized her opinion.

The conversation took a turn when B.R. Chopra inquired about Govinda’s mother, to which the actor replied that she was a sage and that his film career was secondary to her wishes. B.R. Chopra, known for his strong personality, was not pleased with Govinda’s response. In fact, he went on to call Govinda’s mother “crazy” after learning about her background in the film industry. Govinda corrected him, stating that his mother had acted in several films, including her debut in “Sharda,” and was, in fact, B.R. Chopra’s senior in the industry.

The situation escalated, with B.R. Chopra becoming agitated and ultimately asking Govinda to leave his office. As the actor recounts, his mother had advised him to pretend to accept the role and then reveal that he wouldn’t be taking it, which he did. This enraged B.R. Chopra further, leading to Govinda being asked to leave the premises. Interestingly, as Govinda was exiting the office, he noticed an ambulance arriving, and it seemed that B.R. Chopra’s health had taken a turn for the worse.

This anecdote offers a glimpse into the dynamics between actors, directors, and the personal choices that shape their careers. Despite the encounter, Govinda has gone on to have a successful career, and this story serves as a reminder of the complexities and challenges faced by those in the entertainment industry.
