It’s been a while since we’ve seen Govinda on the big screen. Recently, there were rumors of his divorce from his wife, Sunita Ahuja, which were promptly denied by his manager. The manager also revealed that Govinda is working on making a comeback in films and is attending meetings for the same. In a recent interview, Govinda opened up about the conspiracy against him in the Bollywood industry and also talked about his film choices and the opportunities he missed. He even claimed that if he hadn’t met Dilip Kumar, the people in the industry would have driven him to death.
In an interview with Mukesh Khanna on his YouTube channel, Govinda shared how people started writing about him being out of work, while he had actually rejected a 100-crore film at that time. This decision is something he still regrets. Govinda said, “I was a disciple of Dilip sir, and I never believed in being late. Have you ever attended a classical music program? I wouldn’t reach the set until my sur and taal were perfect. I’ve never cheated, and till date, I haven’t. Sir, a person can’t do 75 films; I had 49 films on the floor. I would go from one set to another, and I’m an uneducated man who fell into the film line.”
He further revealed that if he hadn’t met Dilip Kumar, the people in the industry would have destroyed him. Govinda claimed that Dilip Kumar saved him from 25 films, saying, “If Dilip sir hadn’t met me, these people would have killed me. Dilip sir got me out of 25 films. I told him that if I leave these films, I’ll have to return the money. He said he would arrange it, and I should focus on leaving the films.” Govinda also talked about how he used to work for 16 days straight, often fainting on set, and his spot boy would also faint at times.
The actor also spoke about rejecting a 100-crore film and how he regretted it, even slapping himself for the decision. He said, “When people were writing that I didn’t have any work, I had rejected a 100-crore film. I was standing in front of the mirror, slapping myself, thinking I had gone mad. I was getting a lot of money, and I could have financed it. I left a 100-crore film, which had the same role that’s being done now. Many films were made on that story.”
Govinda also exposed the conspiracy against him in Bollywood, stating that he went through a phase where he was deliberately targeted and removed from the industry. He claimed, “I went through a period where I was intentionally targeted and removed from the industry. There was a phase of defaming me, which was pre-planned to remove me. I understood that these were educated people, and I was an uneducated man who had entered their space. They started playing games with me. I won’t name them because I’m eating the bread of this industry, and I have to be honest. Conspiracies started against me, and I knew whose actions were behind it. People were even caught outside my house with guns. That phase changed me completely.”
