The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Pena, reported that micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (Mipymes) generate approximately 55% of the country’s jobs.
“Currently, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (Mipymes) are considered the driving force of the Dominican economy, thanks to their important contributions to the Gross Domestic Product and their role in the creation of millions of jobs that represent approximately 55% of the active population of the national labor market”, said the deputy president.
Peña, who led the inauguration of “Mipymes Week”, added that you are they make up “98%” of the business fabric of the Dominican Republic and highlighted the “benefits” that have been achieved for that sector in the administration of President Luis Abinader.
“The beneficiaries of Promipyme, whose total amount placed exceeds 19 billion pesos, to date add up to more than 160,000 businessmen and entrepreneurs, 66% of whom are women. At the same time, we formalized and established the “Trust” fund , which had been created by Law 488-08, and we injected 25 million pesos to support the venture in Dominican territory,” added Peña.
While the Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, Victor (Ito) Bisonó, He considered that Mipymes are the lungs of development in our country.
“Between the number of jobs they generate, the income they contribute to GDP, exceeding 38 percent, and the reach they have at the national level, any welfare policy that leaves out micro, small, and medium-sized entrepreneurs is unthinkable,” Bisonón said.
The minister highlighted the investment that has been made to stimulate the growth and creation of MSMEs and explained that through Promipyme an amount of more than 19 billion pesos has been invested in financing for more than 161 thousand MSMEs and entrepreneurs.
“He 66 percent of the loans granted corresponded to women, with a total amount allocated to gender equity of RD$ 10 thousand 419 million equivalent to 54 percent of the resources allocated to this sector”, he noted during his words.
MSMEs Week
MSMEs Week, organized by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), brings together investors, multinational companies, entrepreneurs and buyers from various productive sectors.
This year, the event is focused on expanding into new markets and using digitalization as a means for growth. Throughout the week, attendees will participate in business rounds, workshops, technical advice and the participation of MSMEs.
Mipymes Week is the most important business event in the Dominican Republic and this year it has the main support of Banreservas, Equifax, Promipyme and Diario Libre, among other companies.
It will run until June 25.
